Bubbas training philosophy

Positive reinforcement, real life, no shame

Bubbas is built around positive reinforcement and practical routines that fit real households. We’re here to help you train with clarity, kindness, and consistency—without turning your life into a full-time training bootcamp. If something isn’t safe, we’ll say so.

What we believe

Training should make life better for both you and your dog. These are the principles behind every plan in Bubbas.

  • Make the right behavior easy and obvious
  • Reward what you want — don’t just punish what you don’t
  • Small reps beat long sessions
  • Calm routines build confident dogs
  • Consistency across the household matters more than perfection

What we won’t do

There are methods we will never include in Bubbas. This isn’t a grey area for us—these approaches cause fear, pain, or confusion, and they undermine the trust you’re trying to build with your dog.

  • Shock collars or e-collars
  • Prong collars or choke chains
  • Punishment-first techniques
  • Alpha/dominance theory
  • Flooding (forcing a dog into overwhelming situations)

Our approach

Bubbas uses science-backed positive reinforcement with clear steps and short sessions. No jargon, no filler, no guilt.

Science-backed methods

Every plan in Bubbas is grounded in positive reinforcement — the training approach supported by decades of peer-reviewed animal behavior research.

Clear, step-by-step guidance

No vague advice. Each session tells you exactly what to do, how long to do it, and what to look for so you know it’s working.

Short sessions that fit real life

Training shouldn’t require a clear schedule and a private training field. Bubbas sessions are designed for busy households and short attention spans (yours and your dog’s).

When the app isn’t enough

Bubbas can help with a lot—but not everything. Some situations need hands-on professional support, and we think it’s important to be honest about that. If your dog is showing any of the following, please consult a certified professional trainer or veterinary behaviorist:

  • Aggression toward people or other animals
  • Resource guarding with escalation (growling, snapping, biting)
  • Severe reactivity that doesn’t improve with consistent training
  • Sudden behavior changes (which may indicate a medical issue)

Bubbas can still complement professional guidance—but for these cases, it shouldn’t be your only resource.

Our commitment

These are the promises we make to every dog parent who uses Bubbas.

Humane guidance

Every technique we teach is safe for your dog and grounded in science.

Practical routines

We design for real life — not a fantasy where you have two free hours and a perfectly quiet house.

Transparency

If something is beyond what an app can help with, we’ll tell you. We’d rather you get the right help than stay subscribed.

Steady progress

Real behavior change takes consistent reps over weeks — and we’re here for the whole journey. No promises of overnight transformations.

Frequently asked questions

Do you use e-collars or shock collars?+

No. Bubbas does not use, recommend, or support e-collars, shock collars, or any aversive tools. Every plan is built on positive reinforcement — rewarding the behavior you want instead of punishing the behavior you don’t.

Can Bubbas help with aggression?+

Bubbas can help with mild frustration, over-arousal, and early-stage reactivity through impulse control exercises and calm routines. However, if your dog has shown serious aggression — biting, resource guarding with escalation, or aggression toward people — we strongly recommend working with a certified professional trainer or veterinary behaviorist. Safety comes first.

Is positive reinforcement "too soft" to actually work?+

No. Positive reinforcement is the most well-studied and effective training method across decades of animal behavior research. It builds trust, reduces stress, and produces longer-lasting behavior change than punishment-based methods. "Soft" and "effective" aren’t opposites — clear boundaries and consistent rewards are how dogs actually learn.

What if my dog isn’t food-motivated?+

Most dogs are more food-motivated than their owners realize — it’s often a matter of finding the right reward and the right context. That said, positive reinforcement isn’t only about food. Play, praise, toys, and real-life rewards (like access to a sniff spot) all count. Bubbas helps you figure out what works for your dog.
