Bubbas Dog Trainer: an honest review (what it’s best for, and what it’s not)
Disclosure: This page was published by the Bubbas team. We've tried to be honest about what the app does and doesn't do.
There are a lot of dog training apps. Most of them give you a library of lessons and leave you to figure out the rest. Bubbas takes a different approach: it builds a step-by-step plan for your specific dog, gives you daily sessions, and tracks your progress. Here’s what that actually looks like in practice — the good parts and the limitations.
Quick summary
- Step-by-step plans across 46 skills (anxiety, walks, chewing, barking, recall, and more)
- Built for consistency — especially useful if multiple people in your household train the dog
- Clear pricing + 7-day free trial (try it, keep it if it helps)
What Bubbas is best for
- Anxious dogs — separation anxiety, noise reactivity, crate panic. This is where Bubbas started, and it shows. The graduated exposure plans are genuinely well-structured.
- Distracted walks — leash pulling, poor recall, zero focus outdoors. The daily steps are short enough that you actually do them.
- Destructive behavior — chewing, counter surfing, digging. The app addresses the routine behind the behavior, not just the symptom.
- Multi-person households — if the biggest problem is that everyone in your house does something different, the household sync feature is genuinely useful.
What Bubbas is NOT for
- Aggression emergencies — if your dog has bitten someone or shows serious aggression toward people or other dogs, you need a certified behaviorist, not an app. Bubbas is not equipped for this and doesn’t pretend to be.
- Replacement for a veterinary behaviorist — if your dog has severe anxiety (self-injury, escape attempts, medication-level distress), an app is a supplement at best. Start with a professional.
- Overnight transformation — behavior change takes weeks of consistent practice. Bubbas makes the process structured and manageable, but it doesn’t make it instant. Anyone promising that is selling something.
How it works
- Pick the issue — Tell Bubbas what’s going on (separation anxiety, leash pulling, chewing, etc.) and describe your dog.
- Get a daily plan — The app builds a structured plan with short daily sessions. You see “today” and “this week” so you always know where you are.
- Follow the steps — Each session walks you through the training with clear instructions. An AI coach is available if you get stuck or need to adjust.
- Track progress — The app records what you’ve done, shows streaks and milestones, and helps you see improvement over time.
Pricing
- Free trial: 7 days, full access, no restrictions
- Monthly: $19.99/month
- Yearly: $69/year (best value)
- Cancel anytime — no contracts, no guilt trips
Is it worth it? That depends on whether you’ll use it consistently. If you follow the daily plan for a few weeks, you’ll know whether it’s working for your dog. The free trial gives you a full week to find out before paying anything.
Who should try Bubbas
- You’ve tried YouTube videos and free guides but can’t stick to a plan
- Your dog has anxiety, reactivity, or behavior that’s getting worse
- Multiple people in your household need to train the same way
- You want daily structure, not a library of 200 lessons to sort through
Who should skip it
- Your dog has aggression issues that need in-person professional help
- You’re looking for a quick fix (there isn’t one)
- You already have a trainer and a structured plan that’s working
What users are reporting
“Every doorbell, every delivery truck, every squirrel—our dog had an opinion about all of it. The desensitization steps in Bubbas were small enough that we actually did them. Barking is down by maybe 80%.”
Barking reduced ~80% in 3 weeks
“My dog used to act like I didn’t exist outside. The daily steps were short, but they added up fast. Walks are calmer, and I’m not repeating myself 900 times.”
Noticeably calmer walks by Week 2
“Week 1 was the first time my dog didn’t panic when I picked up my keys. Bubbas gave me a plan I could actually stick to—and it finally felt like we were making progress instead of guessing.”
First calm departure by Day 5
